Hardwood Floor Refinishing

Hardwood floor refinishing is an excellent option for creating an entirely new look with your floors without breaking the bank. That’s because refinishing involves the use of special techniques to transform the hardwood you already have in your home, rather than purchasing and installing new materials.

When you choose Jason Brown Wood Floors for your wood floor refinishing, you can trust that you’re getting the very best. Owner Jason Brown takes great pride in the refinishing work he does, and it shows. We’ve been awarded Baltimore Magazine’s Best of Baltimore Award 5 times – 2010, 2013, 2015, 2017 & 2024. Not only that, but Jason and his own employees are always the ones to perform the work on every refinishing project – we never subcontract out work. We have proudly served Baltimore, Bel Air, Fallston, Towson, Hunt Valley, and all of Baltimore County, Harford County, Howard County, Cecil County, and Anne Arundel County for more than 18 years and are a National Hardwood Flooring Association Member.

Refinishing Hardwood Floors

Refinishing your hardwood floors can give your floor a completely new custom look. We can accomplish just about any look you can imagine. When your floor has started to show signs of wear and tear, or if you’re simply ready for a new style, Jason Brown Wood Floors offers hardwood floor refinishing as an affordable alternative to completely replacing the existing floor.

We start by sanding down the floor to remove any damage, the existing coat, and prep the surface area to receive the new coat of finish. Once the floor is ready, we can apply nearly any type of finish to give things an entirely new look. Refinishing hardwood floors can accomplish styles that you couldn’t dream of with prefinished floors.

Buffing and Coating Hardwood Floors

Buffing and coating is a slightly simpler process. We perform a light sanding that is not designed to take out deep scratches in the wood. Once the light sanding is complete, we reapply a coat of polyurethane. Unlike refinishing, buffing and coating won’t allow you to completely change the look of the floor but instead gives the floor a new shine and luster in places that need it.

Hand Scraping and Distressing Hardwood Floors

Hand scraping and distressing are creative techniques for adding character to a hardwood floor. You can give your floor a rustic, or antique look, adding character and charm to the wood itself. Hand scraping can be subtle, or more dramatic to show large grooves. The edges of planks can also be scraped to highlight and enlarge the spaces between boards. Other options for distressing include beating the floor with a hammer or applying a dark stain to the edges.
