Refreshing Your Hardwood Floors

Refreshing Your Hardwood Floors

Mud, ice, snow, and dirt can all ruin the look of your hardwood floors.

Do you know what you have been tracking into the house? The weather can be gross all year long, but it tends to get worse during the winter. Mud, ice, snow, and dirt can all ruin the look of your hardwood floors. Have everyone who comes inside wipe their shoes before crossing the threshold. Then put a mat by the door for shoes. Here are some other ways to go about refreshing your hardwood floors

Getting Started

Have long has it been since your floors were refinished? Doing so again will give them the same look they had before, at least for the time being. If it has been more than a year since the last treatment, then it is time to get more done. A brand new layer of finish and coat can make a world of difference

Restoring Some Shine

The next step is to start restoring some shine. Cleaning up the floors is a quick and easy way to pull this off – but be careful! Using the wrong cleaning fluids can end up making matters worse. Plus, you have to avoid going overboard. While wax can remove dirt stains, it might also leave behind a sticky, unpleasant residue. Any floors that are currently coated in polyurethane also demand vinegar and water before they can be adequately cleaned.

Changing Temperature

Adjusting the environmental settings in your home could pay off, too! Being too hot or sweating due to humidity is just as bad as catching a chill or having trouble breathing because of how stuffy it is inside. Too much moisture can zap the shine from your floors, but enough of it can be a problem as well!

Using Floor Protectors

Using floor protectors is an excellent way to prevent accidental damage. Think of it this way: it’s time to move out, but you don’t know how to move your heavy furniture around without scratching the floorboards. Floor protectors guard your hardwood against nasty-looking scratches, gouges, and dents. Moving is already stressful, so there is something to be said about something you won’t need to be worrying about as you pack up your belongings.
