Protect Your Floors from Heavy Objects

Protect Your Floors from Heavy Objects

Don’t let your furniture damage your floors!

Whether you’re getting ready to move, or you’re just looking to rearrange your home for a change of scenery all that moving can cause substantial damage to your floors. The next time you find yourself moving heavy appliances and furniture across your hardwood floors, keep these tips in mind!

No Dragging

One of the best ways to keep your floors protected from heavy objects when you’re trying to move things around is to never drag anything. Whenever you’re trying to move something across wood floors, you should always pick it up. While this may seem like a hassle, it’s a whole lot more of a hassle to replace your flooring due to deep scratches and gouges!

Take it Slow

When moving anything heavy please take it slow. When you’re lifting something super heavy, you will probably want to get it over with as quickly as possible. Unfortunately when you start rushing is when damages can happen, to your floors, your furniture, and possibly even you.

Lighten Up

Most furniture and appliances are quite heavy, so they will scratch a floor pretty easily. Fortunately, there are steps you can take to lighten the load a little bit. Before you move heavy things, make them as light as you can. This will help both your floors and your muscles! Remove food from the refrigerator, take drawers out of the dresser, and empty the shelves of a bookshelf before trying to move it. That one extra step could save you from a backache!

Beware of Wheels

Naturally, most people believe that if something is on wheels, it won’t damage the floors. Unfortunately, this is seldom true. While the wheels might make the object feel easier to move, that doesn’t necessarily mean that your floor will remain unscathed. When you need to move something with wheels, make sure there is something between the wheels and the floor to keep it protected.
