Preparing Your Hardwood Floors for the Holiday Season

2019 is almost over. As hard as it is to believe, that means that the holiday season is fast approaching. Since this is the time of year where you will be hosting the most parties, you will need to make sure your hardwood floors can withstand all of that foot traffic. Here’s how you can get them ready.

Preparing Your Hardwood Floors for the Holiday Season

Since this is the time of year where you will be hosting the most parties, you will need to make sure your hardwood floors can withstand all of that foot traffic.

Maintain It

The easiest thing to do is to take care of your floors. This means that you should keep sweeping, dusting, and mopping. Just be careful when you go to mop because moisture damage can ruin your hardwood floors. Plus, clearing away dust minimizes the chances of ugly scratches on your beautiful floors.

Clean Up Spills

Whenever a spill happens, you should clean it up right away. Spills don’t only occur during a party. You might spill some lemonade while filling out paperwork. Alternatively, you might have to clean up a spill left behind by your children or pets. By dealing with stains as soon as they happen, you can avoid lasting damage to the floorboards.

Put Down Rugs and Mats

Putting down throw rugs and mats is another good idea. Think about where you need to place them. Some examples include the foyer and the kitchen. Protect the staircase with an elegant runner. Whatever you do, be sure to add pads that can keep these features in place so that they don’t cause slipping or tripping hazards.

Protect Them

The next step is to do what you can to protect your floors. Moving the furniture around isn’t something anyone looks forward to, but it is a necessary chore either way. Also, take the time to trim the nails on your pets, and make it a house rule that no one can enter the home if they still have their shoes on. Doing this can frustrate your guests, but at least you won’t have to worry about consequences such as scratches, dents, and loss of color.
