Debunking 4 Myths About Wood Floors

Wood Floor Myths

There are a few myths out there about hardwood flooring that are simply not true!

Here at Jason Brown Wood Floors, we believe that hardwood is the perfect material for flooring. Wood floors stand up to regular wear and tear well, last many years, and have a timeless look that goes with just about any room or design preference. We understand, however, that there are a few myths out there about wood floors that have gained some traction. Today we’re going to debunk four of these common myths so you can be better informed!

Myth #1: Wood Floors Destroy Forests

The popularity of wood flooring might be a cause for concern if you are trying to be environmentally friendly. However, the Department of Agriculture Forest Service has regulations in place to ensure that all wood harvested for flooring purposes is replenished so that the forests continue to thrive. For every cubic foot of tree harvested, 1.66 cubic feet replaces it.

Myth #2: Wood Floors Attract Dust and Dirt

This is simply an illusion because dust and dirt can’t hide on a wood floor. Carpeted areas only look clean, but in reality, dust and dirt embed in the fibers of the fabric and make it very difficult to see. While you can see dirt and dust on a wood floor more easily, it is also much easier to clean and maintain.

Myth #3: Wood Floors are a Bad Investment

We’re not quite sure how this myth took off, but it has been proven time and again that homes with hardwood floors sell for higher prices than those without them. Not only that, but hardwood flooring is also great for your physical health since they are easier to keep clean, making it a good investment for your health as well.

Myth #4: Wood Floors Make a Room Feel Cold

This myth is based on perception. The soft feel of carpeting on our feet can lead us to believe that the whole room is warmer, but in reality, wood flooring can retain heat and insulate a room just as well as carpeting. And, as far as visual warmness goes, choosing the right color scheme can make any room feel inviting!
