Choosing Wide Plank Wood Floors

Choosing Wide Plank Wood Floors

Wide plank floors are incredibly versatile!

How often do you think about the planks of wood that make up your hardwood floor? More than likely, you don’t. At least, not until something goes wrong. If you’re looking to replace your wood floors, then here are some things you should probably know.

Choose a Size

First of all, you will need to know the dimensions of the room where you are installing your wide plank wood floors. After finding that out, add another 10-15% to that number. This will help account for oddly-shaped rooms. When you give an accurate estimate of how much wood you will need, your order can be completed much more quickly. You’ll also need to be sure that where you want the floors put in is a good place for them. Different species of wood behave differently.

Choose a Species

The next step is to choose the species of wood you want to use. Harder woods tend to last longer than softer woods. Pine is a popular choice, but you can also think about ash, oak, and maple. Whichever species you want, don’t get hung up on the color. There is a lot you can do by applying a different color or shade of finish.

Choose the Width

Now you need to decide the width of your wood floors. The individual planks need to be cut a certain way to fit into the space that you desire. If you get a wide range of widths and lengths, you may find that saves some money. The size and shape of your wide plank wood floors can radically change the look and feel of any room that they are in.

Choose Finish

One more thing to think about is whether you want unfinished wood floors or prefinished. Adding the finish is another task you could attempt by yourself, or you could ask the experts!
