Are you ready to give your home a fresh look for the season? Want something that will instantly brighten up the look of any room? Now is the perfect time to redo your floors. Choosing flooring is far more complicated than just finding the best-looking product. Several other factors, such as moisture, durability, and costs, greatly influence a decision. At Jason Brown Wood Floors, we have an extensive selection of different premium wood flooring to choose from and various installation options. Here are a few tips to help you get started on picking the perfect wood floor for your space.

Type of Wood Flooring

There are primarily two types of wood flooring: solid hardwood and engineered hardwood. Solid wood flooring is milled from solid wood logs and is fashioned together along both the long and short edges. Engineered wood flooring comprises multiple layers of plywood and composite material and topped with a layer of solid hardwood. The main difference between these two types of wood flooring is the composition. Solid hardwood flooring is subject to expansion and contraction relative to the humidity and can only be installed on the ground floor. Engineered hardwood can be installed on any level of the home due to its multi-ply construction.

Species of Wood

Wood comes in various species that all have different qualities. Some species of wood are harder than others, which makes them more durable. If you are renovating an area of your home with heavy amounts of foot traffic, consider installing a more durable wood.  If you are more concerned with your hardwood’s color and staining ability, a softer species could work well for you. Oak, walnut, and maple are popular choices of hardwood flooring that are durable and work well with various stains. If you want a more exotic material, consider using Brazilian Cherry, Ash, Bamboo, and Mahogany.

Grain Pattern

When deciding on the wood flooring design, the grain pattern is one of the most important factors. Depending on how a piece of wood was cut, it will create a different pattern on wood planks. You may be able to purchase flooring from some manufacturers that include multiple grain patterns together for a unique design on your floor.
