Choosing a Pattern for Your Flooring

Choosing a Pattern for Your Flooring

Once you’ve chosen a species and finish for your new hardwood floor, it will be time to choose the pattern of the installation.

Once you’ve chosen a species and finish for your new hardwood floor, it will be time to choose the pattern of the installation. Hardwood flooring can be installed in a few different patterns that can alter the shape of your floor and introduce different visuals to the design of your space. If you need help choosing the options for your hardwood flooring, contact Jason Brown Wood Floors today!

Horizontal or Vertical

Straight flooring is the most commonly used flooring pattern, primarily because it is the simplest and least expensive to install. The hardwood planks are installed parallel to each other along the length or width of the floor. Both classic and modern designs can be created with this pattern.

Varying

Randomly patterned flooring is installed in much the same way as straight patterned flooring. The planks are installed along the length or width of the floor. The difference between them is that while straight patterns use planks of the same width, random patterns use a mixture of boards of different lengths. This gives a room a more unique look and is more customizable than the straight pattern.

Angled

For a more unique and luxurious flooring pattern, consider an angled or diagonal pattern. The boards are installed parallel to each other as in a standard straight pattern, but they are laid at a 45-degree angle to the wall. This type of layout can actually help a room feel larger by drawing eyes from one corner to another, rather than from one side of the room to the other.

Parquet

Parquet-style flooring is timeless. Home and business owners have been choosing it for years.  In this installation, the flooring planks are laid in a repeated geometric pattern, making the floor more visually interesting.

Herringbone

A herringbone flooring pattern also makes the floor visually interesting. We’ve all seen the classic herringbone twill jackets. If you like that pattern, why not have it on put on your wood flooring? The zig-zag planks create a classy, interesting visual effect.
