4 Easy Ways to Prevent Hardwood Floor Damage

4 Easy Ways to Prevent Hardwood Floor Damage

Your wood flooring is incredibly resilient, but there are a few things you can do to really keep scratches and damage away.

Your gorgeous wood floors are an integral part of your home. Homeowners have been choosing wood flooring for literally hundreds of years because it is beautiful and doesn’t require a huge amount of effort to care for. Your wood flooring is incredibly resilient, but there are a few things you can do to really keep scratches and damage away.

Furniture Pads

The legs of tables, chairs, sofas, and other pieces of furniture are rough on your floors. No matter how smooth they look, they can all scratch the wood. Chairs are especially bad because they’re constantly being moved. This is where furniture pads come in. Not only does furniture tend to move easier with the pads installed, it also won’t scratch the wood floors. Be careful, though, as the pads may need to be replaced every so often depending on the type you’re using.

Sweeping

There’s always something on the floor. Whether it’s a bit of dust, some particulates tracked in on shoes or a couple of crumbs from that sandwich you had for lunch. Sweeping daily is essential for protecting your flooring. It doesn’t matter if you can’t see what’s there, it can still cause damage. Sweeping daily will minimize the risk of scratching exponentially.

Less Liquid

Moisture is the sworn enemy of wood floors everywhere, but every so often it is necessary to clean them properly. When it’s time to mop your hardwood, take care not to use too much liquid cleaner. It may be helpful to only work on one small area at a time, and dry it off immediately afterward. You can purchase Bona hardwood floor cleaning supplies at Jason Brown Wood Floors!

Rug Pads

Throw rugs are a fantastic way to protect your hardwood, especially in high-traffic areas. If you’re going to put down rugs, make sure you put down a pad beforehand. Most rugs have a backing that can damage the wood. If you’re not sure what sort of rug pad you should use, just talk to the hardwood flooring experts at Jason Brown Wood Floors! We can make sure you’ve got the right one and we’ll even cut it to the exact size you need!
