2023 Trends in Wood Flooring

Jason Brown Wood Floors 2023 Trends Wood Flooring

The current 2023 trends in wood flooring are showing some minor shifts from what has been popular in recent years.

Wood flooring has skyrocketed in popularity over the past decade, and the pandemic did even more to convince people to bring wood flooring into their homes. The current 2023 trends show that wood flooring is still incredibly popular, but tastes are shifting slightly to provide an updated look to interior spaces.

Let in the Light

Dark hardwood floors are beautiful and dramatic, but the 2023 trend is showing a rise in the popularity of lighter wood options. One of the lighter woods gaining the most popularity right now is white oak, which ranges from medium to light and is a hardwood with a Janka rating of 1,360.

Some ultra-light options are available, such as beech, maple, and yellow birch. There are also some medium options that will brighten up your home without sacrificing a natural and cozy aesthetic, such as hickory, American cherry, and Australian cypress. All of these are great options for lightening up your floors and your home.

Choose Rustic Charm

Medium woods, such as white oak, are currently more popular than the ultra-light options because those tend to create a very bright and modern look, as they lack a lot of character and visible grain. White oak and hickory, for example, are going to provide that lightness while having visually interesting characteristics and grain patterns that bring a rustic charm to your light wood floor. Flooring is coming out of the background and finding its place in the home’s overall design.

Go Wide

While narrow planks have been the standard for years now, wide planks are gaining momentum. Wide planks are quicker, and sometimes easier, to install. More importantly, they offer more opportunity for interesting grain patterns per plank and can enhance the visual appeal of your floor while making it look a little less busy than a floor done with narrow planks.

Enjoy Form & Function

With the sheer number of flooring options available, even just in the various wood species you can choose from, floors can be chosen that offer the best in both form and function. People are taking full advantage of this opportunity and choosing flooring like white oak that looks stunning with almost any home design while being durable and easy to maintain—choose engineered hardwood flooring for even lower maintenance and great durability.
